Britain will be hit with another recession next year as the Euro crisis deepens, international experts have warned the Government.

Forecasts by the Organisation for Economic Development and Cooperation are said to suggest that growth will be negative during the first six months of 2012 because of the single currency turmoil.

The findings, which are to be published on Monday, are the first from a major forecaster to suggest that a double-dip recession is likely.

The stark warning last Thursday is said to have 'sent a lightening bolt' through the Treasury, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Officials at the OECD, which backs the Coalition’s austerity drive, are thought to have advised the Treasury it may have to draw up alternative plans to slow public spending cuts if the single currency crisis is not resolved soon.

It is understood the OECD forecast predicts the second recession will be very slight, before the economy picks up again in the summer.

But while Britain's economic woes will be mild, there will be a sever recession on the continent where Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal face strict austerity measures. The spending cuts have causes repeated protests.
